Cast your mind back to school (painful, we know). You’re working on a group presentation – are you the one who does the bare minimum and coasts along, or are you the one who sets up the group chat (on MSN, obviously) and ends up doing all the work?
If you’re the latter, you’re the kind of person we’re looking for. You’ll be joining a software development firm, acting as a one-person department and taking responsibility for all things Windows. In return for your hard work, you’ll enjoy a loyalty bonus scheme and regular social events to help you integrate with the company.
You’ll be working independently but will still have regular interactions with other employees – all of whom are just as sparky and passionate about tech as you are. You’ll be taking ownership of a huge aspect of the business, so will enjoy heaps of autonomy and job satisfaction.
Your days will involve supporting the admin side of their Windows platform, as well as maintaining it and troubleshooting any issues that arise. You’ll act as the secondary support function to IT staff, helping the frontline team assist end users. There’s a shift towards automation, so you’ll work on scripting and establishing internal practices that offer maximum efficiency to users across the globe.
Despite essentially running your own department, you’ll get the chance to participate in weekly team meetings, collaborating and sharing ideas on business improvements. There are lots of bright sparks and people with PhDs here, so your coffee-time conversations will be hugely interesting – one of the perks of working for a software firm is that everyone else loves tech as much as you do. You’ll be fully supported during your progression here, with a culture that will embed you within the company while letting you take ownership of your role.
