Project Managers – the World is Yours

Saragossa

If you’re a project manager with knowledge of investment management or asset management, then you’re one of the most sought-after people in the job market right now.

Since the start of 2016, we’ve seen the number of Project Management vacancies double each year – and by the end of this year, we expect to have seen 5 times as many vacancies as we did in 2016.

So why are so many of our clients investing in Project Management staff?

I’ve spoken before about how financial services companies – particularly more mature ones – are investing heavily in updating their technological processes and infrastructure.

Increasingly, we’re seeing financial services firms invest time – and money – into bringing on experienced development teams and building their own bespoke financial technology solutions, rather than relying on off-the-shelf products from financial technology companies.

This is particularly prevalent among customer-facing financial institutions, such as wealth advisory firms. Mobile banking, investment management apps and robo-advisors are extremely popular among financial customers. I myself can’t remember the last time I spoke to someone from my bank over the phone or via email.

For wealth firms who have yet to fully enter the digital age, making these changes may be crucial – but adding these kinds of tools and integrating them into the business requires an enormous tech transformation.

Legacy systems need to be, at least, upgraded, and, at most, completely torn out and replaced.

New software and hardware needs to be purchased, data warehouses need to be built, and then, to top it all off, someone needs to oversee that these new technologies are properly implemented on time, that they meet demands and, most crucially, that they’re not a drain on budget.

When done properly, digital transformations can completely revitalise a business, however, they are complicated processes that require nothing short of quality leadership. No one likes wasted money less than people who work in finance, after all.

And that’s where you, as a Project Manager, come in.

If you’ve got the technical and financial knowledge, can communicate effectively with different groups of people, and have a not-so-well-hidden love of deadlines and schedules, then you may be exactly the sort of person so many of the world’s leading financial firms are currently looking for.

There’s never been a better time to do what you do best.
