Recruitment is all about people.
It’s an industry where more often than not the people involved are categorised as belonging to one of three groups. Depending on which one of these groups you happen to belong to, you will be dealt with in a particular way and have a particular set of assumptions made about you.
• Clients are the ones with the need, and with the money to spend.
• Candidates are the ones with the skills and the desire to find a new role.
• Consultants are the ones with a commercial interest, and the time and tools to facilitate connections.
In my experience, the way people in these groups interact with each other is often determined by the situation they happen to be in at that particular time.
• Clients that are currently recruiting are suddenly bombarded with new propositions that they’d not heard from previously.
• Candidates that are job hunting are trying to form new relationships with clients and recruiters with whom they have little experience.
• Consultants, constantly under time pressure to fill active recruitment assignments, try to grab the attention of both clients and candidates.
At Saragossa, we try to take a more holistic approach. All three seemingly disparate groups of people within the recruitment world are, ultimately, just that – people.
Collectively, these people form our community. This is a community filled with people with one long term common interest – the recruitment market.
The exact nature of that interest may change. For example, one year someone may be looking for a job due to redundancy, and two years later they may themselves be building a team and looking to recruit.
In January a person may be actively looking to hire an Engineer for a technology project, and in April they may decide to investigate whether their salary is in line with the market rates. They may simply want a sounding board in order to gain a better understanding of their market and understand fully what they are worth.
One of our consultants may have a current requirement and wish to find a suitable person to fill their role, and a year later they may be putting together a networking event to expand their own understanding of technology changes, and may be looking for speakers to contribute.
At any point, a member of this community may wish to reach out to gain insight or knowledge.
For example:
• To explore current job opportunities within the community.
• To access people who may be suitable for an opening in one of their teams.
• To understand market trends and/or current demands.
• To exchange ideas about experiences they have had.
• To gain insight into currently popular interview processes.
At Saragossa, we have been building our community since 2014. We take time to ensure that when people join our community, we understand exactly who it is who is joining us. We try and understand their values, their priorities and their preferences so that whichever role they happen to be undertaking at that point – whether it be candidate, client or even a passive member – they are provided with guidance and advice.
As an organisation, we are brave. We are happy to say no and to challenge the ordinary. We do not seek to monopolise the recruitment industry – instead, we choose to be seen as a partner to likeminded people. We aim to pull together our community in order to provide a more fluid, value oriented offering, which in turn allows us to grow our business.
We’re keen to welcome new members to our community who are aligned with our core values:

• People who can see and place value on Efficiency – who see that bigger is not always better and that more is not always needed, but instead focus on reducing wasted time, wasted money and wasted endeavour.
• People who are Knowledgeable – who understand, appreciate and use what they’ve learned, and most importantly appreciate what they don’t know and are resourceful and honest enough to address it.
• People who are People, and not simply clients, candidates or recruiters.
To help us stay in touch with the people within our Community, we have started a Community Slack channel, where our members can share their knowledge, ideas and insight on the latest news and trends within the UK job market and financial industries. We want to talk to people at every stage of their journey. New graduates looking to get started, C Level strategists looking for insight into technology trends, IT Engineers looking to transition into a new role. From someone who has just missed out on a promotion who wants to share his or her experience, to someone preparing for an interview who wants some support and advice – we want you to join us.
