How valuable would it be if, we as an interviewee, could demonstrate being proactive in a situation during the interview rather than just being a transactional Q&A scenario?

Should we be rethinking the interview process?

When applying for a job, many of us have created an identity through our CVs and application forms that we believe the recruiter will want to see. Then, during interviews, we often adapt and shape our behaviour and answers to elicit a positive response.

How valuable would it be if, we as an interviewee, could demonstrate being proactive in a situation during the interview rather than just being a transactional Q&A scenario?

Being successful in an interview process should not just be based on how well you answer generic questions that you can prepare in advance but on how you react and respond to tasks and questions that showcase your personality and skills. It is the job of the interviewer to ask the right questions to see how well you’d fit into their company.

At Saragossa, we often encourage the interviewee to use their initiative and assert control over a particular task during the interview process.

Will they ask for the Wi-Fi code so they can begin some research?

Will they head out to the main office and ask someone from the team a few questions to gain some insight to help with the challenge set?

Observing how people behave in those situations can provide a more accurate picture of a person’s character and attitude than a polished verbal response.
